PLAY THERAPY (ages 3 -12) is not “just play.” Play is the natural and developmentally appropriate way kids express themselves and understand the world around them. In play therapy, a trained play therapist uses the therapeutic powers of play to help children express themselves, prevent or resolve difficulties and achieve optimal growth and development. Play therapy honors kids’ developmental level and their natural language. Children learn to identify and express their feelings effectively, have better coping skills, more appropriate behavior, stronger self-esteem and more connected relationships.
EXPRESSIVE ARTS AND ACTIVITY THERAPY allows kids ages 10-12 a way to express themselves and communicate when words are hard to find. Although tweens may have the words to share their thoughts and feelings, creative therapies provide a unique opportunity to share information without the confines of language. This can lead to personal growth through an increased understanding of self, others and experiences.
CAREGIVER CONSULTATION is a vital component of working with any child in counseling. Talking with parents and caregivers helps therapists gain insight and have a holistic view of the child to identify areas of concern and struggle, as well as growth and change. In addition, therapists provide education and guidance so caregivers can help their kids express themselves and set healthy boundaries to aid their child’s development in therapy.
EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) THERAPY helps transform how traumatic events affect the brain and our ability to function in healthy ways. EMDR uses the brain’s innate ability to reprocess experiences and change their influence. It can effectively reduce emotional distress, relieve uncomfortable physical symptoms and transform negative beliefs to help you get past stuck points and engage in life in a more resilient and successful way.
